Born in Leicestershire in 1960, Wayne Summers attended King Edward VI Grammar School, Stratford-upon-Avon before studying Art & Drama at the West London Institute and Visual Studies at Oxford Polytechnic (now Oxford Brookes). He has since lived on the North Staffordshire moors, in Bristol, Rotterdam and London and is currently based in the Welsh Marches. For the past 30 years he has worked primarily as a graphic designer whilst continuing to paint. In 2011 he mounted his first solo show in over 20 years at Llanover Hall Arts Centre, Cardiff. He was also invited to show work as part of Made in Herefordshire (2011) and the Three Choirs Festival (2012) at the Courtyard, Hereford. The latter was also the venue for An Upstart Crow, a solo show of 23 works on Shakespearean themes which ran from December 2014 to January 2015. He has subsequently shown at MOMA Wales; The Bohunk Institute, Nottingham; The Sidney Nolan Trust, Powys; Hereford Museum; and Ty Pawb, Wrexham. Having concluded an MA in Fine Art (Painting) at Aberystwyth School of Art in 2019, he is now a Doctoral Research student in the same discipline and at the same institution.
